Who we are
Food is our passion and has been at the core of the Lawson family longer than anyone can remember. Ever since Robert Lawson armed himself with some traditional recipes from a sympathetic friend and set out from scratch to provide for his wife and three offspring, back in 1898.
These humble entrepreneurial ambitions saw Robert produce ‘puddings’ from his outhouse in Dunfermline, Fife and set out to sell these on foot via a hand barrow to communities along the Fife coast. The business was an immediate success and with a lot of hard graft and product development, (some good, some brilliant!) it flourished over the generations. Particular success came after the Second World War, when Lawson’s became a respected household name.
Through its challenges and changes, the Lawson family has maintained the Scottish business over the years, with various members retaining their seat at the helm of the company. In 1997, Francis and his youngest son David established Speyside Specialities Ltd and acquired a controlling interest in a meat manufacturing company ‘Stewart of Buckie’. This is now owned and managed by David Lawson, the fourth generation, who is successfully continuing the legacy of the company – now manufacturing and selling quality, fresh, honest and totally delicious local Scottish produce.
